If you want to manage a router, you need to know the router's IP address, username and password. Usually, routers have a set of default data in production. It also includes D-Link routers.
For security reasons, D-Link routers need passwords to protect some settings. These settings are key system settings, such as wireless passwords, DNS servers, and IP address assignments. Therefore, you must protect your router password, never tell it to others.
What is the default password of D-Link router?
When you use a new router, you must change the default password of the router. Normally, when you first log on to the router's settings panel, you'll be prompted to set a password, which is good for beginners. You must remember this password, otherwise you will not be able to manage the router.
Although different models of D-Link routers have different usernames and passwords, most of them are listed in the following table:
|D-Link Model||Default Username||Default Password|
|DI-514, DI-524, DI-604, DI-704, DI-804||admin||(none)|
|DGL-4100, DGL-4300, DI-701||(none)||(none)|
If you need specific details for other models, or if you don't know the default IP address of the D-Link router, see this list of D-Link default passwords.
Change D-Link default password
Administrators can change the router password or username at any time, but it doesn't matter if you don't change it, you can always use it. Anyone can use the default password and username to manage the D-Link router, and they can modify any settings on the router when they successfully log in.
It's very convenient to change the password. You only need a few seconds, so you'd better change the password. It's no harm. You rarely need to access the router settings, and if you're not a network administrator, it's easy to forget the router's password.
If your home network fails and you forget the router's password, the problem becomes more serious because the router must be reset (see below).
Reset D-Link router
If you want to reset a router, you will delete all custom settings and replace them with the default settings. It's very simple. You just need to hold the reset button for 10 seconds. When you successfully reset the D-Link router, it will return to the default password, IP address and username.
